During those devastating, angry and confusing days, the only thing I knew for certain was God’s call to Indianapolis.
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” I thought as Jon and Kelley Owens presented the vision for City of Lights Church in Indianapolis as a a multi-ethnic and multi-generational community. My boyfriend and I decided to join them.
Unexpectedly, what came next was not my future husband and me following Jesus to Indiana, but a devastating, unexpected breakup. The deepest desires of my heart were pulled out from underneath me so fast it took my breath away.
During those devastating, angry and confusing days, the only thing I knew for certain was God’s call to Indianapolis. In His infinite wisdom and kindness, God provided confirmation in the spiritual, before revealed in the natural. This was His perfect plan for me, despite who was not by my side.
God brought me out of the deep pit of disappointment and into a season of spiritual rest to allow me to focus on being obedient. Some say launching a new church is not for the faint of heart, but I often feel faint! Tremendous amounts of work and prayer are needed to start something from nothing. Work, prayer, and an unrelenting, surrendered heart – even if that heart is broken.
